GARTSIDE, Guy W.

Guy W. Gartside, 65, beloved husband of Delia (Martinez) Gartside, of Vernon, peacefully passed into his eternal rest on Monday (April 10, 2006) with his family and friends at his side. Born on December 5, 1940 at Hartford Hospital to Eleanor and the late Irvin Gartside, he was raised in Manchester. Guy was a graduate of Manchester High School and later graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The University of Hartford in 1962. He was employed, beginning in 1962 with IBM retiring in 1995 after 33 years of dedicated service. Guy proudly served our country in the United States Army beginning in 1963 and returned to IBM in 1965. In retirement Guy volunteered as a school crossing guard for five years. During Guy's early employment with IBM he had the wonderful experience of living in many parts of our great country such as Poughkeepsie, NY, Alexandria, VA, where he met his wife; and Lancaster, CA. He has resided in Vernon, since 1970 and was an active member of the community, coaching little league, softball and girls soccer. Guy was an avid skier, a collector of model trains, collected antique radios, loved listening to classic rock and roll and jazz, and took great pride in his flowers. He was a member of groups such as the AARP and the Train Collectors Association. A loving husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend. Guy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Delia; his three children, Kirk Gartside of East Windsor, Adam Gartside of Vernon, Noelle Gartside of Haverhill, MA; his sister, Elizabeth Larson of Manchester; his mother, Eleanor Gartside of Manchester; and many nieces, nephews and treasured friends. His family will receive relatives and dear friends Monday, April 17, from 5-8 p.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Guy's memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the East Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Guy's name to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305.
